Recession and credit

As  people start losing their jobs, the number of defaults on credit cards increases.   So to reduce their losses, banks become more selective in issuing credit cards to applicants and also reduce the spending limits for credit cards.

Though this helps to curtail the banks losses to some extent,  it adversely affects the overall economy, as traders and merchants have lower sales.
